Your first steps with Building Families would be to call or text us 24\/7 at <a href=\"sms:803-609-5531\">803-609-5531<\/a> or email us at info@buildingfamiliessc.com.\u00a0 We understand making the decision to place your child for adoption is difficult and we will make ourselves available to you on your schedule.<\/li>\n<li>When you reach out, we will talk with you about your particular situation and immediately get you set up with a social worker who can provide support and the resources you need during your pregnancy and in making adoption plan.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" id=\"fl-accordion--label-1\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-controls=\"fl-accordion--panel-1\">What can I expect during the adoption process?<\/a>\n\t\t<ul>\n<li>You will have the opportunity to make decisions about the type of family you want to place your child with. We will show you family profiles that meet your criteria and make sure you are choosing the family you desire.<\/li>\n<li>You will be able to decide how much or how little contact you want to have with the adoptive family you choose, both before and after placement.<\/li>\n<li>Once you choose a family, we will facilitate any contact you want to have with them or put you in direct contact with them if you prefer. The social worker will also be able to help your voice be heard during this process.<\/li>\n<li>You will have the opportunity to create a hospital plan that will direct what your desires are for when the baby is born.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" id=\"fl-accordion--label-2\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-controls=\"fl-accordion--panel-2\">Can I get help financially?<\/a>\n\t\t<ul>\n<li>In South Carolina, adoptive families can pay reasonable living expenses for expectant mothers during their pregnancy and for up to 6 to 8 weeks after delivery.<\/li>\n<li>The social worker will work with you to assess your needs to come up with a reasonable budget for living expenses and certain medical expenses.<\/li>\n<li>Any legal fees you incur will be covered by the adoptive family.<\/li>\n<li>Counseling will be made available to you during and after the pregnancy at no cost to you.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" id=\"fl-accordion--label-3\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-controls=\"fl-accordion--panel-3\">What role will the birth father play in my adoption plan?<\/a>\n\t\t<ul>\n<li>Every situation is different. Expectant\/birth fathers can have the same rights as expectant\/birth mothers, however, to assert these rights the expectant\/birth father must have been actively involved in the pregnancy or the child\u2019s life and have made his desire to parent known.<\/li>\n<li>In some situations, the father will never play a role in the adoption and his consent will not be required, but in others his consent will be required. The particulars of your situation will dictate the father\u2019s rights and the role he will play.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" id=\"fl-accordion--label-4\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-controls=\"fl-accordion--panel-4\">Will I have my own legal representation?<\/a>\n\t\t<ul>\n<li>While not required, we can refer you to your own legal representative to assist you during the adoption process if you desire. You may also choose your own legal representative at any time in the process.\u00a0 This will be at no cost to you.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" id=\"fl-accordion--label-5\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-controls=\"fl-accordion--panel-5\">What happens after I place my child for adoption?<\/a>\n\t\t<ul>\n<li>Counseling will continue to be offered to you after placement.
